8 Trader Joe’s Summer Finds I’d Skip Again, But 8 I Absolutely Loved

Sharing is caring!

Summer at Trader Joe’s means a parade of seasonal goodies that tempt even the most disciplined shoppers.

I’ve been on a wild taste-testing adventure through the aisles, sampling everything from fruity beverages to exotic snacks.

Some items made me do a happy dance in my kitchen, while others left me wondering what product development was thinking!

1. SKIP: Watermelon Jerky

Holy moly, what a bizarre creation this turned out to be! The texture resembles fruit leather that’s been left in a hot car for days.

Something about the chewy, oddly sweet yet artificial taste just didn’t work for my palate. Save your $3.99 for actual watermelon instead.

2. LOVE: Sparkling Watermelon Juice

Fizzy, refreshing, and bursting with authentic watermelon flavor! Unlike many watermelon drinks that taste like liquid candy, this sparkler captures the essence of biting into a perfectly ripe melon.

Pour it over ice with a mint sprig and pretend you’re at a fancy resort. Your taste buds will thank you!

What if I told you these looked promising but delivered disappointment? The banana filling has an artificial flavor that’s closer to banana-scented markers than actual fruit.

Though the chocolate coating is decent, the interior texture becomes oddly gummy when frozen. Ever wondered why banana candy rarely tastes like real bananas? Same problem here!

4. LOVE: Strawberry Lemonade Joe-Joe’s

BOOM! These cookies knocked my socks off with their perfect balance of tart lemon and sweet strawberry creme filling. The cookie itself has a delightful snap that holds up beautifully when dunked in milk.

If summer had an official cookie ambassador, these vibrant pink-and-yellow treats would win by a landslide. Grab two boxes—you’ll need them!

5. SKIP: Jalapeño Limeade

However much I wanted to love this spicy-sweet concoction, it fell flatter than week-old soda. The jalapeño kick hits weirdly in the back of your throat rather than blending harmoniously with the lime.

Hence my disappointment! The heat level varies wildly between sips, making for an unpredictable drinking experience. Would you believe some gulps taste like plain limeade while others burn like fire?

6. LOVE: Tangerine Cream Bars

Zesty citrus meets creamy vanilla in these nostalgic frozen treats! Remember those orange push-pops from the ice cream truck? These sophisticated cousins deliver that same childhood joy but with real tangerine flavor.

The outer shell shatters pleasantly against your teeth while the vanilla center melts luxuriously. Where has this frozen masterpiece been all my life? Share your thoughts if you’ve tried these!

7. SKIP: Patio Potato Chips

Yikes! These chips promise a backyard BBQ experience but deliver confusion instead. The seasoning tries to capture multiple flavors—ketchup, mustard, and pickle—yet somehow misses all targets.

Though the chip texture is pleasantly crunchy, the powder coating leaves a strange aftertaste reminiscent of artificial smoke flavor. Alas, these bizarre snacks won’t be making a repeat appearance in my shopping cart!

8. LOVE: Organic Watermelon Fruit Spread

Slather this ruby-red delight on toast and prepare for summer magic! Unlike many fruit spreads that taste one-dimensional, this preserves the complex sweetness of peak-season watermelon.

The consistency hits that perfect middle ground—not too runny, not too stiff. Would you believe it makes an incredible glaze for grilled chicken? Unexpected versatility makes this jar a summer MVP!

9. SKIP: Ube Ice Cream

Purple disappointment in a pint container! Despite the gorgeous violet hue that promises exotic flavor adventures, this ice cream delivers a vague sweetness that’s neither here nor there.

The texture turns oddly icy rather than creamy after a few days in the freezer. For all the ube hype, this particular iteration falls dramatically short of expectations. Save your freezer space for something more exciting!

10. LOVE: Chile Lime Mayonnaise

OMG! This zingy condiment revolutionized my summer sandwich game faster than you can say “elevated lunch.” The lime brightness cuts through the mayo’s richness while the chile provides gentle warmth rather than overwhelming heat.

Slathered on corn on the cob or used as a dipping sauce for sweet potato fries? Absolutely transformative! Has anyone else discovered this jar of culinary magic yet?

11. SKIP: Strawberry & Jalapeño Crisps

Frankly, these crackers suffer from a severe identity crisis! Are they sweet? Spicy? The strawberry aspect materializes as vague fruity undertones while the jalapeño heat appears randomly in every third cracker.

Though the packaging looks adorable, the eating experience leaves much to be desired. Even cheese can’t save these confused crisps from mediocrity. Don’t waste your snack budget on this experiment gone wrong!

12. LOVE: Dill Pickle Mustard

Pickle lovers, rejoice! This condiment brilliantly marries tangy dill pickle brine with smooth, zippy mustard to create sandwich heaven in a jar. The texture strikes the perfect balance—not too chunky, not too smooth.

Slathered on a hot dog or mixed into potato salad, this flavor bomb elevates everything it touches. How have we survived summers without this magical concoction? Grab it before pickle enthusiasts clear the shelves!

13. SKIP: Brazilian Cheese Bread

Alas, these frozen puffs promise authentic pão de queijo but deliver rubbery disappointment instead! When baked according to package directions, they emerge with oddly dense centers and lackluster cheese flavor.

Though the concept excites, the execution falls flat. Where’s the stretchy, cheesy interior these Brazilian treats are famous for? Even extra baking time couldn’t salvage these bland bread balls. Skip them on your next TJ’s trip!

14. LOVE: Peach Black Tea

Sunshine in a bottle! This perfectly balanced tea combines robust black tea with juicy peach flavor that tastes genuinely like tree-ripened fruit rather than candy.

Cold or hot, this versatile brew maintains its character. Add a splash to summer cocktails for an instant upgrade! Have you experienced the joy of peach tea popsicles yet? Freeze this liquid gold for the ultimate heat-wave treat!

15. SKIP: Cauliflower Thins

Sorry, but these flimsy cauliflower discs fail spectacularly as bread replacements! They crumble faster than New Year’s resolutions and possess a lingering vegetable aftertaste that clashes with most sandwich fillings.

Though the nutrition stats look impressive, the eating experience disappoints. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy real bread occasionally than suffer through these sad substitutes? Your sandwich deserves better than these bland, fragile rounds!

16. LOVE: Honey Pale Ale Mustard

KAPOW! This mustard delivers a flavor explosion that makes standard yellow varieties seem downright boring. The ale provides depth while honey adds subtle sweetness that balances the mustard’s natural bite.

Incredible on grilled sausages or as a pretzel dip! The thick, spreadable texture stays put without dripping. Can you imagine a better condiment for your summer cookouts? This jar deserves permanent pantry status!
